How else can they be so exaxct on the C series reissues. If this guitar is reissued, would any changes be made to it and how much would it cost in today's market? I think that Rickenbacker probably has all of the jigs and machinery for every model that was produced since the late 50's. At times I think about putting Toasters in it, but then I play it and the sound is perfect. I keep thinking of having it refinished, but I just love the way it looks with the worn off Jetglo in parts (mostly around the butt end on the back). Needless to say, it feels and sounds perfect. I still have the original pickup that was on it. All I did was to replace the higains, add a piece of solid maple where the cavity was routed (Now hidden under the pickup) and bypass the. The wireing harness is in perfect condition. It is a 1973 model and the remaining pickup is a hi gain without the pole covers. It was missing a pickup and someone tried to route the bridge pickup cavity on the bass side. The neck and frets were quite good but finish on the body is very well worn. I purchased my 480 back in 2001 on ebay as a project guitar. Even though it's also from the past, I believe it's the guitar of the future.

I truly believe that RIC could sell a ton of these guitars. I think you've really hit the nail on the head. the weight, the size, the feel, and the sound. I have a 620 and really like it, but I'm tall an the 480 just feels so right. I could not agree more, my 480 brother! Whenever I play out with mine, it draws nothing but attention and positive comments. OK.I've stayed out of this until now but since I've recently acquired an October 1972 480,I'll weigh in on this one.the 480/481/483 series guitars are KILLER guitars.I played mine at work, and not only did it attract a crowd,it played and sounded better than any new Strat,Tele,Les Paul or SG.with it's contoured, radiused edges, the 480 is REALLY comfortable.at gigs, everyone does a doubletake."WTF?!?".IF there is a re-issue (and thats a BIG if),a neck-through 480 would be HOT.how about a 486/12?Humbuckers on the 6 string side, toasters on the 12 string side.do you suppose RIC still has the old 480/4080 jigs and fixtures laying around somewhere?Judging from the reactions of the 16-24 year old demographic in our store,a re-launch would be a HIT,and appeal to someone other than the usual BeaTles/Byrds/Petty/REM Rickenbacker buyer.
